Holiday Road plays Floodfest at Guthridge Park in Hiawatha, IA on September 6, 2008. A great time was had by all and lots of funds were raised to help Cedar Rapids schools affected by the floods! Check out newest band members Gabe Perez on bass and Allison Winter on vocals!
Read the thank you card to Holiday Road from the City of Hiawatha for that show!

Pictures from the Halloween Party at Gus’s are now in the photo section. We had a killer time there as always! Pass an evil eye over photos and check out all the creature features. We had Edward Scissorhands, the Tooth Fairy, and a Giant Whoopie Cushion to name a few.

It really is appalling that the last post entitled “New New New Stuff” was written way back on Cinco de Mayo. So before moving on to actually new stuff (or even stuff from four months ago for that matter) I’m first going to pay penance to that fact by posting some old old old stuff.

The word “holiday” comes from the OLD English hAligdæg, literally meaning holy day. It is a day set aside for focusing on something beyond the every-day things, possibly a day to reset or refreshen one’s soul.

“Road” comes from the OLD English rAd meaning ride or journey. So the Holiday Road might be the journey to refresh one’s soul, or the quest to enliven one’s passions. Or maybe even the search for a theme park called WallyWorld. Best ask Mr. Buckingham, I guess.

And for the final OLD stuff (or would the singular be stuffi?) I give you a caveman inventing the wheel.

All sorts of new stuff to report. First, we had a killer time at the Riverside Casino in April. What a great place to play! It is beautiful and the staff is super accomodating. Roger’s amp blew out during a song and they were right there within seconds plugging in another one. Rich, U R da Man! We got lots of pictures in the photo section taken by Mike Breazeale of Breazeale Photography. He’s got a picture of a sweet looking motorcycle on his website at the moment.

Since then, we’ve been rockin’ at Charlie’s and Gus’s. Check out the pictures from Charlie’s taken by some of Shannon’s Body Combat cohorts. They were all jamming with their martial arts moves. It could have been a TV special on Fox called “When Line Dancing Attacks!“

We’re all digging ourselves out from our thick ice coating this Sunday morning, February 25th. Our gig was cancelled lastnight for the wintery weather. Not to mention that most of the area was without power for most of the night and morning. This photo from the Cedar Rapids Gazette shows the fresh glazing on the road sign at the corner of Winter Park Place and (that’s right) Holiday Road.

Added some new photos to the gallery from Hills Bar & Grill on December 2nd and from Gus’s on December 16th. Also made some updates to the listen page. You can now either play some of the mp3 samples directly from the page or open the full media player for all of our mp3’s.

Bass player Mike Heimburger and his wife Lucy became the proud uncle and aunt to little baby Theo last November. Theo looks fabulous sporting his fine H.R. threads and giving his patented “who the heck are you” look!

Holiday Road played for Charlie’s Annual Halloween Party on October 28th. The place was packed with some spectacular costumes. Even the band donned some spooky (and funny) garb. The night featured a costume contest and and some good dancing. It was also the HR’s second gig with our new drummer, the fabulous Ken Winter. His drumming chops add some exciting new beats to the band. Check out all the great costumes!

It was a fun time indoors at the John Ernest Vinyard on October 15th. The wind was blowing outside but the wine was flowing inside. The Winery always throws a great party. We celebrated a birthday for Lucy’s sister, Elsie. As much fun as we all had, it was a bittersweet Sunday for the band. It was Roger and Cindy’s last gig with us. Playing music means so much more with good friends. We’ll miss you guys!! Have fun doing the DJ thing in Des Moines! Here’s the pics.
